Some time back Maybelline ,New York, had come up with a beautiful collection, called The Jewels which have been liked and talked about by many bloggers. There were some eight shades that were introduced as a part of this collection (do let me know if I'm wrong) namely, Rubylicious, Red Garnet, Pink Tourmaline, Amethyst Ablaze, Fuchsia Crystal, Pink Tourmaline, Refined wine and Berry Brilliant.
Although I did like Rubylicious and Fuchsia Crystal (remember I was in a Fuchsia/Hot Pink phase then!) , I ended up picking only Fuchsia Crystal from this range. BTW, the shades have different names in different countries which kind of baffles me, why the hell do brands do that? Or are they different shades all together...more confused!!!
Anyway, coming on to the review, this is what the Maybelline India website says about these lipsticks
- ILLUMINATED COLOR only from our deep jewelucent pigments.
- CREAMIER FEEL only from our nourishing honey nectar
- A captivating jewel collection in 8 deeply provocative shades
Apply your lipstick by starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of your lip, following the contours of your mouth. Repeat the technique on your lower lip.
Price: INR 350 (fantastic! )
Read on to know my thoughts on this lipstick!
The lipstick packaging is a little different from the regular Maybelline Colorsensational Lipsticks. The cap has a prismatic effect to it which sets it apart from other lipsticks from the same range. All the lipsticks have a pink cap and a silver bullet with Maybelline written on it. The other Color Sensational Lipsticks that I have don't have that. It shuts quite tight and it pretty travel friendly. I like it!
The lipstick has a mild scent to it, again very different from the other ColorSensational ones.
The shade Fuchsia Crystal is a pretty Fuchsia Pink with strong blue tones to it. I personally felt it looked quite similar to MAC's Girl About Town, perhaps a tad shade darker and a little more Blue.
Here's a swatch of both for you to compare and see! :)
Texture and finish vise, its nothing like GAT, but I really think it will be unfair to compare both. Maybelline is almost 1/3rd the price of MAC so I don't even expect to do it that good. But if you look at the lipstick alone, I think its brilliant. Although, its a bit hard and not as creamy as I like my lipsticks to be, and it does apply a bit unevenly and you have to put in that extra effort to make it look even. But with 3 or 4 coats, its pretty opaque and long lasting. It survives a good 5-6 hrs on me. The lipstick has a slightly glossy finish to it. It is neither drying nor really moisturizing!
And it does not bleed, I very rarely use a lip liner with it, although using one would definitely help in improving the staying power. The lipstick fades evenly and leaves a nice berry pink stain behind.
And here's moi wearing the lippie :)
All in all, it is indeed a great lipstick on a budget and maybe a drugstore dupe for GAT. If you don't want to spend on GAT, try this. And since there are so many shades to choose from, you can definitely find a shade of your liking!
Hope you find the review useful...
Have a great evening everyone!!
