Winter Essentials: Lip Balms

Winters are here...
And as much as I hate them because I have to pile on a lot of wollens to keep me warm, somehow I also love winters because this cold dry season helps me experiment with a lot of skincare to keep the skin nourished and looking soft and supple and my absolute favorites being Lip Balms because I can buy many and keep one in every corner of the house and in my handbags and reapply as many times as I want.

Today's post is about the Lip Balms I'm currently using, and which ones worked for me and which didn't...

The Body Shop Lip Butters:

  • Sweet Lemon Lip Butter
  • Chocomania Lip Butter
  • Foundation Lip Butter
These three are my favorite lip butters because they are very creamy and buttery, and nourishing and keep lips nourished for really long. AND THEY SMELL DIVINE!!! But, the sad part is , when winters are at their peak, these almost freeze and it's very hard to use them, so I have to scoop out hard and melt it with my fingertips before application. Another thing is the hygiene part, and your hands must always be clean before you dip your fingers in these small round pots, which btw, look absolutely adorable . The Chocomania and the Sweet Lemon Lip Butters were Limited Edition I think, but the Foundation Lip Butter is permanent.

Rs 350/10 ml , Available across The Body Shop counters

Burt's Bees Lip Balms

  • Burt's Bees refreshing Lip Balm with Pink Grapefruit: This is a nice Lip Balm for Summers though I don't like it much in winters except for applying as a base for my matte lipsticks. It has a very lightweight texture and doesn't stay on my lips for more than 30 mins.
  • Burt's Bees Besswax Lip Balm: Err!! No words for this one...It was really a big mistake to buy this one..I don't like anything about this Lip Balm except for it's minty feeling on the lips. The texture is super hard and it doesn't budge from its place except if I scrape it with my fingertips.

Rs 400 each, available at Sephora

Oriflame Beauty Tender Care : Chocolate

It's the same Oriflame Beauty Tender Care Balm with a strong Chocolate caramel-y fragrance which is a little overpowering for my olfactory senses. The texture is just like petroleum jelly and this balm is great for hard and dry areas like knees and elbows, I don't like it much for the lips.

Price is somewhere around Rs 200. Don't remember exactly.

Himalaya Herbals: Natural Moisturizing Lip Butter

This one also claims to have Cocoa Butter , and you would have known by now, that I love cocoa &/or chocolate scented skin care products. Just that this one has the fragrance in just the right amount and it's very moisturizing and really makes dry/chapped lips look better when applied overnight.

Rs 125, available online as well as across pharmacies.

Lakme Lip Love: Tinted Lip Conditioner in Charmer

Excellent Lip care product when you're pressed for time. It has color and it makes lips soft too. Lakme makes these in four shades and I got Charmer which is a pinkish-Red. Gives a very glossy and supple look to your lips and my favorite while going out for my morning walks.

Rs 225, available across Lakme Counters.

Avon Simply Pretty Dew Kiss Lip Tint : Rosy Kiss

It is a tinted lip balm with a lot of color and less of moisturizing properties. I have this in a shade called Rosy Kiss which is a red lip tint with balmy finish. I would have actually liked if it were either more glossy or more nourishing, but somehow it's neither. Only the good part is a lot of color in the balm, and the tint stays for quite a while.

Priced at around Rs 150, available only though Avon representatives

Maybelline New York Lip Smooth Color Blooms and Baby Lips <3 Color

I have the Lip Bloom in both the shades that it is available in , i.e. Pink Blossom and Peach Blossom. These look colorless in the bullets, but once applied, they change color to that indicative of the color of the tube. The pink Blossom one is very very pigmented and it just stays on the lips forever. Even witha  makeup remover, it's pretty tough to take off the deep raspberry stain in one go. The Peach Blossom one is lighter and therefore more preferable by me. They do prove moisture to lips too. Awesome products!!

And of course, then there are the baby Lips <3 Color ...omg! I just can't have enough, and I don't even remember how many of these I've already finished. I have these in the shades Coral Flush (a light Orange tinted Lip Balm) and Rose Addict (on lips it's a very faint natural pink!!). The Coral Flush one is my absolute favorite pocket balm, and this is perhaps my third or fourth one. I love Baby Lips!! Period!!

Lip Blooms: Rs 125
Baby Lips: Rs 150 , available across Maybelline Counters, and everywhere else ;)

Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balms and Caramel Cream Lip Butter

My love affair with Lip Balms started with Nivea so they will always be very special to me. I have these in Pink Guava and Strawberry. Good color, awesome moisture. Needless to say anymore!! I love these tubes.

Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream is my latest purchase and I'm loving it too. It doesn't have color , but smells deliciously of caramel filled toffees, and is intense on the moisturizing part.

Fruity Shine Lip Balms: Rs 129
Lip Butter: Rs 189

And when Mommie is such a big Lip Balm addict, how can the baby not acquire the addiction.
This is Avon's Naturals Lip Balm for Kids in Strawberry.

And the Colorless ones together:

And the Tinted ones :

Do you also love Lip Balms/Butters as much and like to hoard on them too??
