Makeup Geek Loose Pigment UTOPIA : Review/ EOTD/FOTD

MakeupGeek Loose Pigment ($6.99/ 2g), available at
Hi Everyone,

you must have seen my HAUL that I posted a few days back. I was really excited about the two pigments that I had picked , firstly, because I fell in love with the swatches on the website, and second , because I wanted to try eyeshadow foiling technique which I learnt from one of Marlena's Videos. I've been experimenting around a bit with these loose pigment eyeshadows and here's my review on the shade UTOPIA

Product Description :

Regardless your skin tone, this is sure to be a match made in Utopia!  Perfect for everyone, this amazing duochrome glitter pigment adds a sparkling and stunning pop to your eyes. This is the perfect mixture of deep browns and antique gold shimmer that looks dazzling. Use alone and pat over a base for a soft shimmery effect, or with a mixing medium for a more alluring look. The creamy texture allows it glide on smoothly with little fallout.

The Bottom Line:
A mixture of deep brown and antique gold shimmer duochrome glitter.

The Makeup Geek Loose Pigment UTOPIA comes in a small plastic jar with a screw top lid. I think there is some inconsistency in packaging because out of the two pigments that I ordered, this one (Utopia) came with a sifter while the one one had no sifter and the jar was filled up to the rim, so there was a lot of spillage as soon as I opened the lid. Without a sifter, it is really hard to manage a pigment and they get on your hands and kind of smear everywhere . I wish makeupgeek does something about the packaging here. It is very inconvenient to use or travel with.

The shade UTOPIA is actually very hard for me to describe. I'd say it's pretty much exactly how makeupgeek website sums it . "Deep Brown with antique gold shimmer".

For me, this is an out-and-out festive wear color for the lids. The pigment when swatched/applied dry doesn't hold on to the lids properly, irrespective of your base. The glitter is quite chunky and that leads to a lot of fall out.

Applied with a dampened brush, it's an entirely different story. The texture becomes more smooth and it applied fairly evenly. The fall out during application was also less.

Utopia stayed on my lids for more than 6 hours. There was no fading or creasing but there was a bit of gradual fall out, like you notice a fleck of glitter somewhere on the face every now and then and you know where it has come from.

My overall thoughts about this pigment are quite simple, it is not a long wearing eyeshadow, so you don't expect it to perform the same . However, mixing it with a medium certainly enhances the pigmentation, applicability and staying power. Utopia is an excellent shade for pairing with ethnic Indian dresses and now that the festive season is here, I can't wait to flaunt my sparkly lids during the evenings.

P.S.: In the images above, I used the foiling technique that I learnt from Marlena's Video here.
