The Roman Holiday -Part 1 (Colosseum & Trevi Fountain)

Hi everyone,

If you follow me on Facebook and Instagram, you would have known that I had gone on a holiday to Italy in the last week of April. The trip was mainly planned to celebrate the occasion of our 10th wedding anniversary on the 29th of April and then also because we hadn't taken a holiday in very many years now.

It wasn't really a planned trip per se since we just wanted to go out and the options started from Goa , to South East Asia and then finally we decided upon Italy. We kept our base in Rome, because Rome and Vatican were on no.3 position in my top holiday destinations ever. Blame it on Dan Brown's gripping reads.

Anyway, we started on the 26th of April. We had a connecting flight from Dubai with a 3 hour stopover , which was ample time for me to explore the Dubai Duty Free (which btw was highly disappointing!!, or maybe the Terminal I was at which was the Emirates exclusive and didn't have many makeup brands that I was specifically looking for..) and reached Fiumicino Airport, Rome at around 10 pm local time in Rome. It was a long journey and we directly headed to our hotel which was only 1 station away from Roma Termini, and about 40 minutes from the airport. Literally jumped into our beds soon after.

The next morning we decided to plan out a few deets about how and where we would go to, what all we intended to cover etc. Had a quick breakfast at the hotel and headed over to Termini station, got our Trenitalia tickets booked for Pisa and Venice and then decided to see the highlights of Rome i.e. the Colosseum and then the Trevi Fountain.

From Termini Station, one can take the metro and get down at the Colosseo station which is right next to the Colosseum. As soon as I stepped out of the station I had my first wow! moment when I saw the grand Colosseum standing in front of me. The euphoria of the moment can't be described in words. We read and we think we have a fair idea about how huge it is, but alas , its so much more grand and so very marvellous.

After exploring the Colosseum, both the first and the second floors, we walked our way to the Trevi Fountain. Thankfully, my husband had downloaded HERE Maps for Rome before leaving Delhi so we didn't have to ask for directions. This maps works well even when offline so you don't even need a data connection all the time. Also a tip when travelling out of India, I feel getting an international sim card from MATRIX is a great idea. At a fair charge, you get to have a phone with data connection all the time.

So without digressing further, I am sharing a few pictures from Day 1 in Rome. Enjoy!!
